Egypt

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Egypt

Language: The official language is Arabic.

Plugs: The plugs in Egypt are type C and F. Type C has two round pins and type F has two round pins with two earth clips on the side.

Currency: Egyptian Pound. The abbreviation is EGP. For a quick conversion check, my go to’s are Google and XE Currency Converter. XE also has a great app.

Cash or Card?: You will find that cash is mostly used in most parts of Egypt. However, in the more touristy hotels and restaurants, you should be able to use card.

Best Time To Visit: Between October and April is the best time to avoid the heat. Shoulder seasons are March to May and September to early October. If you have to visit in the summer, it is definitely doable but just be aware of the heat, (and bring a handheld fan).

How Long Should I Go For?: Give yourself at least 10 days to see most of the highlights of the country. You can also have a great time with just a week, and an even better time with longer! Need help planning your next trip? Check out some of my guides here and the bucket list here!

What To Bring: There is no official dress code in Egypt for tourists, but it is always best to follow local customs. Women should cover their shoulders and wear pants/dresses below the knees. Men can wear pants and a shirt or t-shirt. When you get closer to Hurghada, the dress code is much less strict. Check out some of my essentials here.
