Iceland

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Iceland

Language: Icelandic. However, you will find that most people speak English. Especially in the more touristy areas.

Plugs: The plugs in Iceland are type C or F. It is the standard Europlug socket with two round prongs.

Currency: Icelandic Króna. Abbreviations are ISK, KR, and Íkr. For a quick conversion check, my go to’s are Google and XE Currency Converter. XE also has a great app.

Cash or Card?: Cards are primarily used for most purchases all over the country. For gas pumps, make sure you have a card with a pin. And if you are staying at a campground, many only accept cash.

Best Time To Visit: All year long! Iceland’s winters are cold and dark, but the dark brings the chance to see the northern lights. Summers are bright with some days having 24 hours of daylight! Finding the right time to go really depends on how you want to spend your time and what activities you’re interested in.

How Long Should I Go For?: I have visited Iceland for as little as a weekend and as long as 2 weeks. No matter how long have, you’re sure to see some amazing sights. Need help planning your next trip? Check out some of my guides here and the bucket list here!

What To Bring: If you’re visiting in the winter, make sure you have warm enough clothing, and in the summer I wouldn’t be surprised if you needed both your coat and just a t-shirt all in the same day. In Iceland it’s all about the layers. Check out some of my essentials here.
